The War Industries Board is one of the many Wartime Agencies established during WWI. It was established in July 1917, to coordinate the production of war materials. Although its authority was limited at first, problems with production convinced Wilson to expand them and appoint Bernard Baruch to run it. The WIB told manufacturers what they could and could not produce, got raw materials, ordered the construction of new factories, and set prices.
